ResolutionTab App Reviews

rMbp 13 1680x1050 (non-retina) unavailable

Just installed and I am a bit frustrated that the 1680x1050 (non-retina) setting is unavailable. The closest option is 1650x1050, leaving two black columns of unusable space of your screen. I would not have bought this if known it before hand.

Doesn’t work with an external 4K monitor

I’ve bought this application to get HiDPI mode on my external 4K monitor Dell UP2414Q. Unfortunately, ResolutionTab supports HiDPI mode ONLY on the main display (rMBP) :( P.S. OS 9.1 Maverics

Perfect

First such app Ive found, after trying several, that supports the default HiDPI resolution of the 13" MacBook Pro Retina (1280x800 HiDPI), as well as the other standard HiDPI resolutions offered by Apple in System Preferences. Perfect quick switching without having to go into System Prefs. Thanks!

Useless for MPB 15" with Retina

Why? Because theres no “back to native Retina mode” option.

Just what I was looking for...

It does one thing well and it does that one thing extremely fast. Switching display resolutions in Mountain Lion is kind of a pain and you must go to the display preference pane as they took away the option to have the displays in the menu bar unless you are mirroring two displays. With this utility you can switch quickly between the current resolution and the 2x HiDPI mode of your display. Nothing more but it is just what I was looking for. Great for taking high-res screenshots or testing websites with Retina Graphics.

Nice utility

It does what it says. Quickly and easily.

Awesome

Abesolutely the best way to enable Retina-mode on your Mac. Just cmd+click the icon and BOOM!

Complete Waste of Money for Retina MBP

I dont know about other Macs, but for Retina MBP this was the biggest waste of $1.99 for me. It does not really do anything useful.

the worst ever

seriously, a waste.

Does what it says, and well

This is a great lil app for the price. On my 15" Retina it easily allows me to switch from my usual default of the "Looks like 1920 x 1200" in the Apple Pref Pane to the Full 2880x1800 of the retina display- and the full spectrum of display options in between. The big selling point for me was that it allows quick toggle between these "custom hires modes" that it enables and the default pref-pane based resolution. The other resoltion app, "Display Menu" gives you access to the custom hires modes but forces you back through the standard display prefpane to regain 1920x1200 hidpi mode, which is a pain after about the 4th switch.

Great App

I have tried a few other apps, but for one reason or another they didnt do everything this does. The other apps were missing a few of the resolutions this app offers.

Only one HiDPI resolution available

I was really hoping for more than one HiDPI option.

So simple, yet so helpful!

I love this app! I have a 13" Retina - I love the mobility of it - and I do a lot of work in Photoshop and Lightroom and I found the default 1280x800 HiDPi works well while browsing the Internet, but not while editing photos! My normal method of having to go into the system settings every two minutes to change the resolution was a pain! THANK YOU FOR THIS! It solves all of those problems!

A must have with the Retina Display MacBook Pro

This app worked right out of the box and is easily accessible on my desktop. Im an Ableton Live user and this was the perfect fix!

Perfect

Works as advertised on my 15" Retina MacBook Pro. Finally I can easily and quickly switch between resolutions as well as unlocking the super tiny 2880x1800 mode to test out developing retina iPad apps, something I couldnt even fit on my 27" iMac. :)

Just a menu?

From reading the description; I assumed I would be able to set my 27" 2560x1440 display to a few lower resolutions higher than 1280x720 in the same way the Retina MacBook Pro will let you run at 1920x1080. But all this does is let you switch between resolutions you can already switch between from the Displays Setting Panel. You still have to run the command line code to activate HiDPI.

Exactly the "one-trick-pony" I needed :D

Allows me to quickly toggle the faux-Retina HiDPI resolution on my non-Retina MBP for testing hi-res artwork. Its a pain to use the System Preferences Display pane, which (sensibly) jumps front and center, covering whatever youre looking at. With the user-defined key combination, I can avoid the extra steps. Well worth it if you have to switch back and forth repeatedly. I will heartily second the suggestion that it could offer a checkbox to enable the HiDPI option on non-Retina screens. This way the user avoids the hassle of a) hunting down the appropriate terminal command or b) having to install Xcode just to set a checkbox once in the Quartz Debug utility.

Greatness

If you have 13 retina mbp and want to use a 1080p external display this is a must. Also great if you connect your macbook to large tvs

Perfect, Except Lacking Mirroring Toggle

It’s a tiny quibble and probably not a big deal, but this would be the perfect display toggler if it also toggled display mirroring.

Works great with my 27" display

I havent upgraded to a retina MBP yet. I currently run an Air with a 27" cinema display. This app saves time switching to HiDPI mode directly from the menubar (or keyboard shortcut).
